FFS: a note on the English language

When someone hands an item over to you, free of charge, it has been GIVEN to you.

It has not, repeat NOT, been "GIFTED" to you.

Cheesus christ, people, what the fuck?

I wonder where that usage came from. I am stress about this.

I don't know, but it's just awful. And stupid. Egregiously stupid. And wrong.

Language changes. Get over it.

Oh, for fucks' sake, it's my blog, where I get to bitch about stuff that bugs me. Get over it.

I've seen quite often. I think it has been popularized by the changing of the words in "The 12 Days of Christmas".
...my true love gave to me...
is hard to sing, while
...my true love gifted me...
is easier.
Then again, it might be one of those misunderstandings that people think are clever, and so they repeat it.

Wait, they changed the words to The 12 Days of Christmas? When - what - who - huh? Who gets to make those decisions, and why was I not consulted? I do not approve!!

Nice to see you 'round these parts, the b.!
